The future of transportation

    Ian Pearson, a futurologist, makes predictions about some of the big changes we can look forward to. In the past, we invented the wheel, then carts and steam cars. Jet travel in the 1950s was the last major advance, then high-speed trains in Japan in 1964. The innovation continues with electric cars and autonomous vehicles. In the next 25 years, cars will still be on the road; however, the energy that powers them will certainly change. With the increase of solar farms, electricity has become an abundant resource and cities will turn to clean ways of getting this energy to consumers. In the next 50 years, there will be more electric vehicles than gas-powered ones. There will be some flying cars, but not very many. They will be self-flying cars because of safety challenges. In addition, we continue to travel long distances for work, and ground and air travel will become faster and safer with new technologies.
