There are several types of hobbies. Some of them are typical women’s hobbies like knitting, embroidering or making lace. Typical men’s hobbies are fishing, do-it-yourself projects, or fixing a car. Most hobbies are done by both men and women. Many people collect something such as stamps, napkins, coins, postcards or old records. Some rich people collect old cars and renew them or collect antique or folk-art pieces. A good hobby can be studying something, for example languages, or astronomy, or any other science. These people collect books and special equipment to do their hobbies. For example, if you are interested in butterflies, you need insect- specifies, insect-net, pincers and you must like being in nature. If your hobby is history, you certainly have a lot of books, films or maybe original documents of history. Sport and dancing may also belong to hobbies.
Free time activity is something else. You spend your time with a pleasure activity, but it is not your passion. People spend their time watching TV, reading books, playing computer games or playing cards. Some people like cooking, doing the gardening or doing a sport or doing crosswords. Sometimes free time activities form small communities, fellowships. It is also true for hobbies as well. Women go to needlework clubs, for example, or men go fishing, hunting and birdwatching together or in groups.
Why do we need hobbies or to do free time activities? The answer is in the question: we “need” them. Without engaging in hobbies or free time activities you are easily bored, or you cannot refresh yourself after your tiring job. Hobbies, free time activities give us recreation, excitement and pleasure. If you “just” watch the TV and eat some snacks, you will be a couch potato, you will be fat and obviously a boring, dumb person.
Hobbies make your life colourful and interesting, free time activities are relaxing and sometimes useful. For example, if you start cooking after a stressful day to ease your mind at the same time, you give delicious food to your family. Or after work you go jogging, it makes you healthy and it doesn’t let you get fat. So, it’s time to take up doing something quaint in your free time!
