Read the passage and choose the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the best to each of the following questions.

Mimosa pigra is native to tropical America and was first recorded in Vietnam in the 20th century; it has now appeared all over the country. Mimosa pigra prefers a wet-dry tropical climate with high annual rainfall and temperatures. It will probably not be a major problem in regions if the rainfall is lower than 750 mm or higher than 2250 mm.

This species is dangerous as its seeds spread very fast. Water, animals and people can carry the seeds which are in hairy portions of pods everywhere. For example, animals’ fur picks up the seeds by accident, and some animals take the seeds with them wherever they go. The seeds can also stick to people’s dothing, shoes and hair. Also, seeds are transported by vehicles, boats and equipment. The hairy coverings make the pods float well on water, so they can be easily transferred downstream and onto floodplains to rivers. Once seeds have taken root, they grow quickly. Plants that are 2.5 cm in diameter in the first week often grow to 7 cm in diameter by the second week. In some experiments, after being cut at ground level, young plants could regrow to a height of 2.5 m and cover an area of 6.3 m² in less than 12 weeks. The appearance and rapid growth of Mimosa pigra could harm native plants and damage any local biodiversity.

Student Life at University

Life at university is exciting but can be difficult for those who are not well-prepared. There are some basic skills that you should learn to start a new life in a new environment better. First, budgeting is very important. This skill will help you plan how to spend your money suitably and save money for your future. Second, there are a lot of subjects in which you have to complete many assignments. Each assignment might be accomplished by a deadline after which you might get a low score or fail the subject. Therefore, it is essential that you learn time management in order to spend your time wisely and productively. Last but not least, learning to cook helps you save a lot of money, and eating at home is better than eating out. Learning how to cook is not always as difficult as most people think. You can get simple recipes from the Internet or ask an experienced person like your mother for advice on how to make daily dishes.

Read the following passage and choose the correct answer to each of the questions.

Since water is the basis of life, composing the greater part of the tissues of all living things, the crucial problem of desert animals is to survive in a world where sources of flowing water are rare. And since man’s inexorable necessity is to absorb large quantities of water at frequent intervals, he can scarcely comprehend that many creatures of the desert pass their entire lives without a single drop. Uncompromising as it is, the desert has not a limited life but only those forms unable to withstand its desiccating effects. No moist-skinned, water-loving animals can exist there. Few large animals are found. The giants of the North American desert are the deer, the coyote, and the bobcat. Since the desert country is open, it holds more swift-footed running and leaping creatures than the tangled forest. Its population is largely nocturnal, silent, filled with reticence, and ruled by stealth. Yet they are not emaciated. Having adapted to their austere environment, they are as healthy as animals anywhere else in the world. The secret of their adjustment lies in the combination of behavior and physiology.

None could survive, like mad dogs and Englishmen, if they went out in the midday sun, many would die in a matter of minutes. So, most of them pass the burning hours asleep in cool, humid burrows underneath the ground, emerging to hunt only by night. The surface of the sun-baked desert averages around 150 degrees, but 18 inches down the temperature is only 60 degrees.
