Read the passage carefully and choose the correct answers.
Some Buddhists have a long-standing tradition of freeing animals from captivity. It is regarded by these people as a kind action which could influence what will happen to them in their future lives. However, according to some (1) _______, this practice also poses harm to local wildlife, and the government should be urged to ban it.
The improper release of animals can have negative impacts on the living environment in local areas. It can help quickly spread foreign species into the native environment. Many people have (2) _______ poisonous snakes and red-eared turtles, which can reproduce quickly, eat other species or even destroy the local ecosystems.
(3) _______, some species may die after being released. Wild birds, for example, fall into a cycle of being caught and released, and then being caught again, causing the birds to die slowly. Many species of turtles like mountain turtles are often released into pagoda ponds, but they cannot survive a week in the new environment, and some (4) _______ die within three days.
Experts suggest that the tradition of freeing animals should be ended because apart from destroying native species (5) _______, this release does not have much meaning in bringing life to the liberated species. There should be instructions on what animals can be released and how to release animals into the environment to make sure they can continue living.

Read the passage and decide whether the statements are True, False or Doesn’t say.
Ecological balance is the stability of each species’ population within an environment. However, this state can be upset by the introduction of new species, the sudden extinction of animals, natural disasters or man-made problems. Throughout history, there have been a variety of environmental issues. Some of the most serious problems are the activities of preparing and fighting wars, which can cause serious environmental damage. During the Vietnam War, for instance, dense forests covering large green areas were carpet bombed, resulting in the habitat of numerous species being destroyed.
The ecological balance has been seriously affected by how the world’s population has increased from the industrial age. We have been clearing plants and trees, changing the way to use the land and expanding paved areas for our development. These activities have an impact on both the water and soil quality and ecology. Due to the increasing water demand of different industries, water has been extracted from deeper wells in further areas. In addition, increased paving would not only reduce the amount of water vapor but also contribute to groundwater pollution. Those issues have gotten worse in recent years and caused many consequences.
Scientists have been carrying out the solutions to ecological imbalance for the past two decades. Hopefully, we can deal with the negative effects of industrial development, and more endangered species will be saved in the next 50 years.
The ecological imbalance can be caused if one species disappears unexpectedly.

Invasive species, also known as introduced, alien or exotic species, are non-native species that significantly alter or disturb the ecosystems they colonise. Such species may reach new regions via natural migration, but the actions of other species frequently introduce them. Human activities such as global commerce and pet trade are common means of transporting invasive plants, animals, microorganisms and other organisms to new habitats. For example, zebra mussels accidentally made their way to the Great Lakes of North America after sticking to massive ships that sailed between the two areas. Zebra mussels are now so prevalent in the Great Lakes that they endanger native species.
Introduced species may become invasive when they have an inherent competitive advantage over native species in invaded areas. In most cases, the ecological disruption caused by such invasions reduces the biodiversity of the ecosystem and causes economic harm to those who rely on its biological resources. Invading species can quickly replace native species, causing the local extinction of numerous native species by preventing them from obtaining food, habitats or other resources. Over time, they can establish breeding populations and thrive in the circumstances, especially if there are no natural predators to keep them in check. For instance, in the late 1940s or early 1950s, brown tree snakes were unintentionally introduced to Guam, a South Pacific island. No animals on Guam hunted the snakes, but there were plenty of birds, rodents and other small animals for the snakes to eat. As a result of the snakes’ rapid population growth, nine of the island’s 11 forest-dwelling bird species became extinct.
