Interestingly, I (11)_________ to all of these countries, so I know this is all true, even the ones that sound a little strange. The first country I want to talk about is the UK. Their culture is quite similar to mine in the USA. People greeteach other with a friendly handshake, (12) _________ is the same in the USA. They also sometimes kiss closefriends and family on the cheek. It's a taboo in England to be late to things. Punctuality is important, andpeople think that being late is rude. It's also really rude to not wait for your turn in a line.

The next country is Italy. Punctuality isn't too important to Italians, which is very (13) _________ the UK.They have a few taboos that are a bit different, too. It's a taboo to ask for extra cheese on your pizza. Peoplethink you are being rude to the chef (14) _________ you ask for more, which seems strange to me. You shouldalso dress nicely and smartly in public.

I also want to talk about Malaysia. It's a cultural norm to take your shoes off (15) _________ going intosomeone's home. It's also common to eat with your hands, which I think is great. Using knives and forks isboring. (16) _________, it's a taboo to point at people with your right hand. If you want to point, you shoulduse your thumb, which was hard for me to remember. It's also really rude to touch someone's head.

I hope you find this interesting. What cultures do you know about? What are considered good and bad mannersin those cultures? I want to hear about all of them.

Read the following passage about great jobs and choose the correct answer to each of the questions.

Some people love working so much that it doesn't feel like work. But most people are not so lucky. They needmoney to live, so they need a job. However, they don't love their work, and they feel unhappy. And becausethey are unhappy, they may not work hard. Luckily, some people and companies are trying to improve things.

Dan Price is the CEO of a company based in Seattle. In 2015, he raised the salaries of all of his workers to$70,000 a year, much higher than the average income in the United States. To pay for this, he cut his ownsalary to the same amount. Interestingly, according to a study by Princeton University in 2010 about salaries, people who make around $75,000 each year are happier and feel more satisfaction than those who make lessor more money. Since Price made his decision, his workers have been happier and his company has been morethriving.

Money is one reason why some workers are unhappy with their jobs. Another reason is working too manyhours. Perpetual Guardian, a company based in New Zealand, wanted staff to have a better work- life balance. The company came up with a plan. Its staff were paid for five days, but they only had to work four days eachweek. Not surprisingly, workers were happier and more satisfied.

Many studies show that people who do things are happier than people who buy things. For example, going ona road trip or learning to play the guitar is better than buying a car or guitar. The famous company Airbnbwants its staff to have great experiences. Workers get $2,000 each year to stay at Airbnb properties anywherein the world. As a result, many people who work at Airbnb love their jobs.
