InEngland,builderWilliamWillett(1857–1915)becameastrongsupporter forDaylightSavingTimeuponnoticingblindsofmanyhouseswereclosedon anearlysunnymorning.Willetbelievedeveryone,includinghimself,would appreciatelongerhoursoflightintheevenings.In1909,SirRobertPearce introducedabillintheHouseofCommonstomakeitobligatorytoadjustthe clocks.AbillwasdraftedandintroducedintoParliamentseveraltimesbutmet withgreatopposition,mostlyfromfarmers.Eventually,in1925,itwasdecided thatsummertimeshouldbeginonthedayfollowingthethirdSaturdayinApril and close after the first Saturday in October.
